What we do

We make the world a happier place by increasing access to sports and music. In schools, shelters, and refugee camps, we provide resources like instruments and sneakers, work alongside local community leaders and teachers, and build new fields and facilities that create sustainable impact for entire communities. ISMP programs provide opportunities for children, many of whom have faced profound trauma, to find friends and mentors, to learn life skills, to improve their self-image, and to lose themselves in moments of joy.

Who WE are

ISMP is one big global family with many parts. Thanks to the hard work and dedication of our program partners, core team, board of directors, leadership council, collaborators, and countless volunteers, ISMP now spans four continents with 12 programs in six different cities. how we started

After graduating from UNC Chapel Hill in 2014, Jason Steinberg moved to Pohnpei, Micronesia to teach English and coach high school basketball. When the school team couldn’t afford sneakers or jerseys, Jason began fundraising and the seeds of ISMP were sown. Soon, ISMP grew into an international family of people who passionately believe that sports and music can make the world a better place.

why sports and music?

Many children around the world lack opportunities for enjoyment and expression. Our programs serve as expressive outlets that enable people not just to enjoy themselves, but to feel fulfilled and stay healthy. Studies repeatedly find that sports and music are beneficial to brain development, as well as positive physical and mental health.
