ISMP YOUNG NONPROFIT LEADERS INTERNSHIP PROGRAM

Overview

In this internship, you will get a chance to play a meaningful role in fulfilling ISMP's mission while learning the ins and outs of nonprofit work, social entrepreneurship, and international development. You will get a chance to see what it takes to run an organization behind the scenes, from coordinating programs on the ground, to rallying support and everything in between. 

Responsibilities:

  • Interns will be assigned a primary responsibility pertaining to our fundraising and outreach efforts — responsibilities may include planning/coordinating your own campaign or event, conducting research about potential partners/donors/collaborators, helping prepare for our 2023 gala or summer music festival involvement, and any other tasks that may be assigned


Schedule:

  • Interns will meet as a group once per week on Mondays at 4 PM via Zoom. If other days/times work for the accepted interns, this is susceptible to change. 

  • Interns will be required to submit their work for the week by Thursday 5 PM. 

  • There will be an introductory in-person meeting for those who are able to attend as well as an in-person meeting at the end of the 8 weeks. 


Program:

  • The internship is from June 21st - August 21st

    • Week 1: 

      • Learning: Onboarding; What is ISMP? How do nonprofits work? What is social entrepreneurship? 

      • Action: Create your “self-us-now” storytelling model; conduct ISMP research; Consider ideas for individual events/campaigns; 

    • Week 2:

      • Learning: Nonprofit Fundraising and Events – How to build partnerships and relationships that share your goals for improving the world; how to organize, plan, and execute on an event/campaign/fundraiser that builds capacity

      • Action: Develop a 30 second, 2 minute, and 5 minute version of your self-us-now; Create an overview for an individual event/campaign

    • Week 3:

      • Learning: Nonprofit Marketing - how to share stories and information in a way that builds support and empowers beneficiaries 

      • Action: Create an execution plan for your event/campaign; Develop individual outreach materials including an outreach template 

    • Week 4:

      • Learning: Project Management - how to lead, plan, and manage with lots of moving parts

      • Action: Finish planning the campaign/fundraiser and discuss with the group; 

    • Week 5:

      • Learning: Nonprofit Programming - how to coordinate activities and work with partners around the world 

      • Action: Continue outreach to individuals who you hope to involve in your event/campaign, and continue planning 

    • Week 6:

      • Learning: How to stay flexible, adapt, and course-correct on the fly

      • Action: Continue outreach to individuals who you hope to involve in your event/campaign, and continue planning 

    • Week 7:

      • Learning: Preparing for major events and meetings; how to get ready for the big day and prepare for whatever may come 

      • Action: Execute on your event/campaign 

    • Week 8:

      • Learning: How to seek out opportunities as a student and recent-grad 

      • Action: Present results from your event/campaign  


Compensation:

  • This is a volunteer internship position for an official 501(c)(3) charitable organization

  • Each volunteer will receive special ISMP merch 

  • Food will be provided at the two in-person meetings

  • We will work to support interns in their continued education and work in whatever way we can, including making connections, writing recommendations, and staying in touch.
